Ratings Explained

Ok, so it’s easy to rate 1-5 stars. And the average person can probably ascertain how much I liked or disliked something using that rating system. But I want to take the time to really explain what each star rating means to me so that you can better understand what it might mean to/for you. Because I’m anything but average…which means my reviews/ratings are too. ;]

So here we go:

1 out of 5 stars = I didn’t like it.
And what I mean by I didn’t like it is that IT WAS GARBAGE. 9 times out off 10 these are books that I never finish because I just couldn’t get through them. If I did finish them, I don’t know how…because they made me want to gouge my eyes out with dull spoons with every word I read. I will never re-read (or attempt to finish reading) and would never recommend.

2 out of 5 stars = It was okay.
As in, “It didn’t make me want to hurt myself but I’ll probably never read it again.” Don’t waste your time or your money because there are too many books out there that are better than this.

3 out of 5 stars = I liked it.
Really, I wanted to like it. Like, really like it. But it didn’t really move or inspire me in any way. A good read, and recommendable, but not exceptional.

4 out of 5 stars = I really liked it.
This was a book that affected me in some way. It made me think. It inspired me to act. It prompted me to stalk the author via the intarwebz. These are usually worth a re-read and definitely worth a rec.

5 out of 5 stars = I loved it!
I want to marry it and have its babies. It was genius. It made me laugh or cry or both. It made me angry, it made me sad, it made me think it was probably written about me or my life should have happened like it. It made me have all the feels and if I wasn’t swamped in a TBR pile as big as a house, I’d re-read it RIGHT. NOW. I will recommend this to everyone I know…even people who don’t like to read. Because it was that good. Note: These are very, very hard to get from me. I don’t hand them out as freely as most book reviewers do, so when you see one you should just proceed directly to your source for book buying and get a copy of whatever it is. DON’T ASK ANY QUESTIONS.

Behind the Curtain

Hi. My name is Shannon and I like books. And photography. And video games. I use this space to talk about books and particpate in badassery. You can read a bit more about my awesomeness and how Twilight Sleep came to be (the name has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, contrary to popular belief) on the about page. :]
