Recap + Giveaway: Fierce Reads Spring Tour 2014 Part 1 – The Booksellers at Laurelwood | Memphis, TN

On Sunday May 18th I had the pleasure of being the dedicated blogger in attendance for the Fierce Reads Spring Tour 2014 Part 1 stop at The Booksellers at Laurelwood in Memphis, TN. The store is about 2 and 1/2 hours away from my home in Arkansas but when the Macmillan publicist contacted me about covering the event, I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity!

Fierce Reads Spring 2014

Part 1 of the tour features Katie Finn, Lindsay Smith, Anna Banks, and Marie Rutkoski. Fierce Reads set aside some time for me to chat with the authors before the event, so I put together a few questions for them to answer. My adorable husband came along so he could help me out by recording the interview. Check out the video below to see what we talked about!

Once we wrapped up our chat, we headed up to the event location. The Booksellers provided delicious strawberry and chocolate mini-cupcakes for everyone to snack on, along with water and a scrumptious fruit tea (it tastes like iced apple cider with oranges!). I was really grateful since I hadn’t had anything to eat all day except for two glazed donuts! MMM, FOOD.

Anyway, I did some live tweeting during the event but in case you missed it, here are a few tidbits I picked up:

  • Anna Banks actually worked at a bank before becoming a full-time author. Anna Banks. Get it? It’s a name AND a sentence! HAR HAR HAR
  • Lindsay Smith said the biggest reasons why she enjoys writing YA is because of how open the genre is and how forgiving people tend to be of young adults when they make mistakes, because they are still learning about life.
  • Marie Rutkoski would rather see The Winner’s Curse be a TV series than a movie, with one season per book in the trilogy.
  • Katie Finn won the “best name for a sequel” award when she announced she was working on revising the second book in the Broken Hearts & Revenge series: Revenge, Ice Cream, and Other Things Best Served Cold

We also found out that Anna Banks’ Syrena Legacy series was recently optioned for a film adaptation, so a huge congratulations goes out to her!

After Q&A time, the authors signed our books…and posters, and e-reader covers, and whatever else we could find to have them scrawl on:

And then they took pictures with their awkward, nerdy fans (like me):

I had such a great time hanging out with the authors, the publicist, and the staff at The Booksellers at Laurelwood. Thank you to Fierce Reads (Mac Kids/Teens) for the wonderful opportunity!

If you recall, I’m not a fan of Rafflecopter giveaways so we’re going to do this one a little differently. Macmillan has graciously provided a copy of each of the authors’ books for me to award. I’ll choose a random winner from those who repost on Instagram (follow me there for your chance to win!) and from the comments left on this blog post. The winner will receive a copy of these books: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski, Of Neptune by Anna Banks, Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things To Mend by Katie Finn, and SEKRET by Lindsay Smith. Giveaway is US only. Winner will be chosen on May 26th. Good luck!

And the winner is…

Angie at Disquietus! Thanks to everyone who participated! Don’t worry if you didn’t win this time, there will be more giveaways soon!

Welcome back! I hope you’re doing well! I thought you were gone forever! And waaah, looks like you had a lot of fun! <3

    • Shannon

I thought for a little bit that I might be gone forever too, but I couldn’t stay away! And yes, the event was TONS of fun. Great authors, interesting conversations, and delicious cupcakes, hahaha!

  2. Josie @AllBookedUpYA

What a great post and wow, lucky! All of those FABULOUS authors! :-) I loved following your live tweets! Can’t wait to get my hands on a few of these reads!

    • Shannon

So glad to hear you enjoyed the live tweets, Josie! I was worried that no one was really paying attention. D: I’m super-excited to read The Winner’s Curse – I’ve heard so many good things about it and after meeting Marie, I’m sold!

    • Shannon

      You’re welcome. :]

    • Shannon

I know, right?! Now I feel like I need a cupcake, haha.

  3. Katie B

Fabulous recap. I’m so jealous Fierce Reads stopped by you. I loved Sekret and I’m a big fan of Anna Banks’ books. And Katie Finn definitely does win the best name for a sequel with that title. It looks like you had such a great time. =)

    • Shannon

Don’t be too jealous – it’s RARE that an author signing happens anywhere near where I live…and I had to drive 5 hours roundtrip to make it to this event! But it was totally worth it. I’m so glad that Macmillan/Fierce Reads includes us tiny little southern states/cities in their tours. I got to meet Leigh Bardugo last year thanks to them! <3
