In a world of New York Times Bestselling Authors, sometimes it’s easy to forget that there are other authors out there who are just as good as – or even better than – the NYTBAs. I’ve read some books from indie and self-published authors that FAR exceeded some of the bestsellers I’ve read (coughfiftyshadescough) in story line, character development, etc.
One thing I want to use my blog and reach for is promoting authors that I love that haven’t made the bestseller list or become a household name. Because, you know, indie authors need love too.
So who better to start with than my FAVORITE indie author?
E.J. Stevens is not your average author. She’s a goth-dressing, vegan-eating, Corgi-loving bundle of badassery…and she just happens to love me about as much as I love her! It was a romance born on Twitter – I honestly don’t know how I even stumbled across her handle but I did. At the time, she happened to be doing a giveaway for one of her books, which I won. And read. And fell in love with. We’ve been happily
married chatting ever since.
E.J. is the author of the Spirit Guide series which tells the story of goth-girl Yuki who has a very unique psychic ability: she smells dead people. Ok wait….she doesn’t go around sniffing dead bodies or anything as horrifyingly morbid as that. But the spirits of the dead can communicate with her….and they do so through her sense of smell. One spirit smells like burned cookies…another like roses and lanolin…you get the idea. There’s something strange going on with her best friends Calvin and Emma as well….but you’ll have to read the books to find out what Yuki discovers about them. Currently, there are four books in the series with a 5th installment slated to arrive in the fall of this year.

But that’s not all. In 2012, E.J. announced that she was starting a new series and that instead of YA, this one would be new adult. Enter Ivy Granger – just your normal, average, everyday girl who runs a psychic detective agency with her best friend, Jinx. Nothing unusual about that…or the fact that Ivy has the Second Sight, which means she can see the monsters that inhabit our world – the monsters that look like regular people to the rest of us. When Ivy manages to land a water fae as a client, represented by a demon lawyer, suddenly life isn’t so normal anymore. The Ivy Granger series is only one book and one (really good) novella right now, but the 2nd book will be making an appearance this summer – and I can’t wait!

So stop by and show E.J. some love – be sure and tell her I sent you! And keep an eye on this spot because you’ll be seeing more of E.J. soon. It’s possible there are book tours and interviews and giveaways to be had…and I know you don’t want to miss out!
