Top Ten Books of 2013 (So Far)

It’s my first Top Ten Tuesday post! Except mine is on Thursday, so there’s a twist. ;) Top Ten Tuesday on Thursday!

Sadly, I haven’t read very many books this year so ten of them would literally be about half. Therefore, I’m going to, again, do things slightly different and just list my top five in kinda sorta but not really any particular order.

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi: CHAPTER 62. That is all.

Bound by Prophecy by Melissa Wright: So talk about surprising – it caught me totally off guard. I’d never heard of this book or the author until I stumbled across a book tour for it. I read the synopsis and thought, “Hey, that sounds interesting!” so I signed up. Little did I know that this would be the first book of 2013 that made me waver between giving it 4 stars or 5 stars. (It ended up getting 4.5 stars.) It’s hard for me to describe why I enjoyed it so much – it was just interesting and different and GOOD. So well written. And I’m a sucker for a well written book. I blathered about how much I love it here.

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry: This book raped my soul. I know that’s awful imagery/language/whatevs, but there’s just no other way to explain what happened when I read it. I cried like a sinner on Rapture day. There were just so many FEELS, too many of which were similar to my own life…gah! I can’t. I just can’t.

Ghost Light by E.J. Stevens: The Ivy Granger series just keeps getting better and better. Ghost Light was SO INTENSE I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to handle it…but somehow I made it through. Which reminds me….I really need to write my review for this one…eep!

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer: We should just name Marissa the retelling queen. Never has any author I’ve read put such a unique and interesting spin on classic fairytales. I’m so ready for Cress that I can’t think straight.

Honorable Mention

The Girl With the Iron Touch by Kady Cross: I can’t leave this book out of the list. It was such a good continuation of my favorite steampunk series so far. Book 4 is VERY high on my 2014 watch list!

So what are your top books so far? Are any of the books on my list on yours too?

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

  1. Jessi @ Auntie Spinelli Reads

UNRAVEL ME!!!! Yes. That has been my best book of 2013 so far! TEAM WARNER FTW <3333

I really need to read Scarlet! It's been sitting on my shelf since I got it signed at the YA2U event and I just haven't had the time to read it D:

  2. Kelley

YAY for Scarlet being on your list! I STILL haven’t gotten to Unravel Me yet, but eventually I will, and then I’ll see what all this Chapter 62 business is about. In fact, maybe I’ll just skip straight to chapter 62 and be done with it!

Hi. My name is Shannon and I like books. And photography. And video games. I use this space to talk about books and particpate in badassery. You can read a bit more about my awesomeness and how Twilight Sleep came to be (the name has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, contrary to popular belief) on the about page. :]
