TBR Thursday: The Girl in the Clockwork Collar

Welp…that title’s a little misleading. Because in reality, I’m featuring a book and 1/2 on TBRT this week! And, gasp, neither of them is new…

girlinthesteelcorsetIn 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one…except the “thing” inside her. When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no “normal” Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch….

Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she’s special, says she’s one of “them.” The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits: Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.

Griffin’s investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help–and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.

But The Machinist wants to tear Griff’s little company of strays apart, and it isn’t long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she’s on–even if it seems no one believes her.

I started this book but never finished it – not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because…well, I think something else came out that I wanted to read more and I just never got back to it…*sigh* I’m terrible, I know.

girlintheclockworkcollarIn New York City, 1897, life has never been more thrilling – or dangerous.

Sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne and her “straynge band of mysfits” have journeyed from London to America to rescue their friend Jasper, hauled off by bounty hunters. But Jasper is in the clutches of a devious former friend demanding a trade-the dangerous device Jasper stole from him…for the life of the girl Jasper loves.

One false move from Jasper and the strange clockwork collar around Mei’s neck tightens. And tightens.

I’m excited to get these out of the way because guess who has an ARC of The Girl With the Iron Touch??? That’s right. *breakdances*

I LOVED The Girl in the Steel Corset! It was like fantastic four meets the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen! Sadly I liked The Girl in the Clockwork Collar a lot less :( but I’m still really excited for The Girl with the Iron Touch!! I’m so jealous you have an ARC of it.

FINALLY, you’re jealous of me about something instead of the other way around! Na na na na na! Ok ok, I’m just kidding! I’m loving Steel Corset so far – I don’t know why I never got around to finishing it before now.

They get better as the series progresses. The Girl with the Iron touch is the best, hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

I just saw The Girl in the Steel Corset on Read.Sleep.Repeat’s goodreads list and am looking for a copy. The series looks pretty good. Can’t wait to see what you think of them as you finish em up!

You can read a bit more about my awesomeness and how Twilight Sleep came to be (the name has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, contrary to popular belief) on the about page. :]
